Rock Hill, South Carolina - Elizabeth Foster Caveny (Betty) passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the age of 96. She was born in Chester, S.C. on April 8, 1929 to Myrtle Brown Foster and Ernest Guy Foster, Sr. She grew up on the family farm in western York County near McConnells. Betty graduated from York High School in 1947 and married Eugene Haye Caveny on June 29, 1947. They lived in Rock Hill and Neely's Creek before moving to McConnells in 1956. This was Betty's home for the rest of her life. Their three children (Anne, Geng, and Steve) all grew up in this home.
Betty loved the outdoors including gardening, fishing, and walking through the woods with her beloved beagles. She also loved the many cats who took up residence in her yard (and house) over the years. Betty loved to read both books and newspapers. The arrival of the Rock Hill Herald was the highlight of her day.
Betty enjoyed travel especially the annual trips with her daughter to the Charleston Spring Home and Gardens festival. She also enjoyed their trips to Highland NC in the autumn. In her seventies, she travelled to England and was thrilled to see the queen while watching the changing of the guard. Betty had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. In her later years, her loving and devoted caregivers were her son Gene and Lula Sanders.
She was predeceased by her husband Gene, who died in 1984 at the age of 59, after 37 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband and parents Betty was predeceased by her brothers, Paul Foster and Ernest Foster, Jr. and her sister, Addie Baker. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Anne Caveny and sons, Eugene Jr. and Steve; as well as grandsons, Cale (wife AJ) and Dillon (wife Heather), and great-grandchildren, Savannah, Aspen, Ty, Novalia, and Sawyer.
