January 20, 1941 - November 18, 2023
Rock Hill, South Carolina - Mr. James Heyward Rawls, Jr., 82, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023 with his loving family at his side.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Laurelwood Cemetery, Laurel Street, Rock Hill, SC with Reverend Scott Carroll officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 5:30 till 7:00 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill.
Born in Rock Hill, SC, Mr. Rawls was the son of the late James Heyward Rawls, Sr. and the late Rebecca Mabel Gantt Rawls. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Reynolds Rawls, his daughter, Karen Denise Rawls, two sons, Richard Wayne Rawls, and James Timothy Rawls, his brother, David Michael Rawls. He was a long-time member of the Optimist Club of Rock Hill, working the Christmas Tree Lot on Cherry Road for many years.
Mr. Rawls is survived by his daughter, Lynn Rawls (Jeff) Henson of Rock Hill; his granddaughter, Heather H (Andres) DeJesus of Rock Hill; his grandson, Andrew (Katelyn) Henson of Irmo, SC; two great-grandsons, Donte DeJesus, and Parker Henson; four great-granddaughters, Zoey DeJesus, Ava Henson, Jade Henson, and Isla Henson; his sisters, Sue Rawls of Charlotte, NC, Cindy (Scott) Carroll of Chester, SC, and Becky Ann (Max) Bryant of Rock Hill; many nephews and nieces. His loving and supportive caregivers, Sharnta Moore, Phyllis Hemphill, Penny Wallace and Sara Moore.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. James H. Rawls, Jr. name to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4600 Park Road, Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28209.
