YORK - Mrs. Maurine J. Smethers, 83, of York, S.C., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C., with burial at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road.
Born in Galveston, Texas, Mrs. Smethers was the daughter of the late Robert Trice Hill and Margaret Ella Alston Hill. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Alvin Blaylock, Albert Ernest Hoffman and then Claude Bert Smethers. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Hill Huber; brother, Roger D. Hill; two daughters, Patti Gail Boyd and Donna Lee Hoffman; and two grandsons, Michael Barry and Fairris Lee James.
Mrs. Smethers was a certified nursing assistant and a charter member of Newkirk Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Wanda J. Thomas of Joshua, Texas, Judy K. Brown of York, S.C., Terri Lynn Smethers and Toni Faye Smethers of Texas; eight grandchildren, Judith E. Brown Ramsey, Bobbi J. Conti, RaeLene Brown Hearn, Stephen Glenn Thomas, Peggy Lynn Thomas, Shelly RaeLene Boyd, Duston Boyd and Jody Lee Boyd; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel.
