Sharon, South Carolina - Roy Kelly McSwain, Sr., 63, of Sharon, SC passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC.
A visitation will be held at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Highway, York, SC on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 PM. The funeral service will be at Shiloh Baptist Church located at 4455 Hoodtown Road, Sharon SC 29742 on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 1:00 PM with Rev. David Brannen officiating.
Roy was born on March 17, 1959, in York, SC. He was the son of the late Donald Gibbs McSwain and Nancy Griffin McSwain. He was a retired custodian at York School District 1 and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Sharon, SC. He was known to his children as "the best Dad and strongest man" and to his grandchildren as "the best Grandpa/ Paw-paw in the world."
He is survived by his children: Crystal Kennedy (Kenneth), Kelly Wherry-McSwain, and Roy McSwain, Jr. (Vanessa), his siblings: Melita Comer (Arnold), Donna McSwain, Cheryl Youngblood, Catherine Glenn (Gary), and his brother-in-law William F. Blackwell, his grandchildren: Malcolm Kennedy, Kyra Kennedy, Kobe Kennedy, Kenya Kennedy, Asia McGruder, Demetri McGruder, Josiah Wherry, Caine Joseph, Solomon Joseph, and Brianna McSwain.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his sister Helen Blackwell.
