Rock Hill, South Carolina - Mrs. Sylvia Epps Baker, 81, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022 at Piedmont Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church with visitation following in the Anne Burns Sanford Parlor.
Mrs. Baker was a native of Fort Mill, SC and the daughter of the late James N. Epps and Hazel Whitehead Epps. A devout Christian, she was a charter and active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was previously involved with the Pioneer Girls and a long-time nursery volunteer. She also enjoyed having an active role in her daughters' school council at The Catawba School. A renaissance woman, she enjoyed fashion and being in the great outdoors. She was an avid world traveler and participated in at least a dozen cycling trips where she explored the world. One of her passions was the Anne Springs Close Greenway, which nurtures area children and adults with special needs. Anne Springs Close became a dear friend and a traveling companion. In Anne's later years, they spent most days together. She was deeply saddened by the recent loss of her dear friend. Mrs. Baker was very supportive of her husband's dental career. She was very active in the American Society of Dental Aesthetics and they attended numerous conferences together over his career.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Connie M. Baker of the home; two daughters, Leslie Anne Baker of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Robin Baker Hume (Dr. Mitchell Hume) of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, Dr. James N. "Chuck" Epps of Fort Mill, SC and Dr. Thomas Walter Epps of Rock Hill; her brother-in-law, James Ray Baker of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren, Neely Hume and Georgia Baker Hume. In addition, she is survived by their dear house manager, Von Gordon.
