Barbara Jean Gilbert, 71, of Bridgman passed away peacefully on the morning of March 1, 2024, at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, with her husband by her side.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 9193 Cleveland Ave., Baroda MI 40101. Friends may meet with the family from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
Her wish was to be surrounded by flowers during her celebration of life and all received will be given to local care facilities for others to enjoy or memorial contributions may be given to the Endocrinology Department at University of Michigan, 777 E. Eisenhower Parkway, Suite 650, Ann Arbor, MI 48108. Make checks payable to Regents of the University of Michigan. Online condolences accepted at www.PikeFH.com.
Barb was born on March 21, 1952, in Niles, the daughter of the late Gerald and Joyce (Sizemore) Edwards.
She graduated from Berrien Springs High School in 1970 with a calling to accounting, which she put to good use at various small local manufacturing companies, an environmental firm, and the construction company that built the casino in New Buffalo.
On Nov. 22, 1991, she married Bryan Gilbert.
Barb loved living near the beach and being WaWa to her nine grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Bryan; her daughter, Shawn (Jerry) McCreery-Tucker; stepchildren: Trina (Brian) Lawrence and Matthew (Ashleigh) Gilbert; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; a brother, Gary (Ana) Edwards; and two sisters: Judy (Jim) Cunningham and Sharon (David) Walski.
Arrangements are entrusted to Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, 9191 Red Arrow Highway, Bridgman.

I had the pleasure of seeing and talking with Barbara at a U.S. Coast Reunion last summer in St. Joseph. She had such a great sense of humor, and as shown by her picture, a very beautiful smile as well. Prayers go out to Bryan, their children and other family members,
