Evan Billings Obituary

Evan was born May 25, 1934, in Berrien County. He passed away at his home in Sister Lakes on May 7, 2024.

Preceded in death by his parents: Arthur S. Billings and Anite (Clark) Billings; 11 siblings, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Evan leaves behind his wife, Ester (Street) Billings, daughter, Karen (Ralf) Benzino of Colorado, daughter, Carol (Dennis) Hessey of Bangor, son, Thomas Billings of St. Ignace, daughter, Evelyn Phillips of Decatur; seven grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Known as a good provider to his wife, children and grandchildren, Evan worked for more than 35 years, before retiring from the Berrien County Road Commission in 1996. He had many hobbies and interests such as hunting, fishing and enjoying nature. When he wasn't on a short day trip to the fair, an auction or a long road trip to visit the family, he could be found in his garage scrapping metal. Most remembered for his chewing tobacco, Pepsi, and a bowl of ice cream. He was known by many – some called him "Shorty," but we called him dad or grandpa.

A service will be held to share memories with the family at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, at the New Life Christian Center, 6674 Paw Paw Ave., Coloma.

His laugh would make you laugh. He was there for me when I needed him. He taught us kids so much. I´m so sorry. Sending prayers and thoughts to the entire family and friends.
