Jean Roberts, 88, of St. Joseph passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, at Caretel Inns.

A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with Pastor Michael Roth officiating. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 Main St., St. Joseph; or Berrien County Cancer Services, 3900 Hollywood Road, St. Joseph.

Jean was born in Lowell, Mass., on April 2, 1933, to Mr. and Mrs. George Sanderson.

She graduated from Lowell General School of Nursing, where she received her R.N. On Sept. 1, 1956, Jean married Maurice Roberts and moved to Michigan in 1958. After a few years of working at Gard School as a teacher assistant, she worked for Berrien County Intermediate Schools until her retirement in 1993. She worked in the field of preprimary special education.

After retirement, she enjoyed volunteer work at Lakeland, C.C.C. and visiting church members in nursing homes and hospitals. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she participated in "Caring & Sharing Ministry" and participated in Christ Care Group.

She was actively involved in volunteering at the Mendel Center for many years and participated for several years in the annual March for Cystic Fibrosis.

Jean is survived by daughters, Debra Jean (Steve) Angvick of Burlington, Ill., and Darlene Sue (Mark) Wallner of Cypress, Texas; and grandchildren, Julia Avonley Wallner and Olivia Jean Angvick.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, George and Hazel Sanderson; and her husband, Maurice Roberts.

My little Down's Syndrome boy, Kennie Schulz was privileged to be in Jean's class for several years. He loved her, and I known he received the greatest care and love from her. My deepest condolences to her loved ones.
