John Robert Olszewski, 93, of Coloma passed away Nov. 14, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on Jan. 20, 1932, in Mesick, Mich. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War for three years. John graduated from Ferris State in 1960, then continued on with his career, working eight years for Acme TV and then Whirlpool, where he worked until retiring in 1995. John was a loving husband to his wife, Marlene of almost 70 years. He deeply loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He enjoyed playing his button accordion and was a great polka dancer, usually being the first one on the floor. John had a sense of humor that could sometimes cause more groans than laughter. Everyone who knew him, loved him. He had a passion for hunting, looking forward to deer season, going out west elk hunting several times and one hunting trip to Africa.
John is survived by his wife, Marlene; his daughter, Cathy (Robert) Morrow of Sodus; son, Michael (Sandi) Olszewski of Coloma; his grandchildren: Jonathon (Tiffany) Graack, Travis (Kendra) Olszewski, Kylie Martin, Kaelee Epstein, Amber (PJ) Sando, Corey (Marney) Winfield and Jerry Winfield; his great-grandchildren: Jonathon Graack, Willow, Eva and Lily Olszewski, Austin, Aiden and Ian Martin, Parker Winfield, and Abby and Matti Sando. Also surviving are his two sisters: Joan Butler and Betty Skellet; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl (Robert) Epstein; his parents: Anton and Thelma Olszewski; one sister, June Skellett and two brothers: Joe and Jim Olszewski.
Per John's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held next spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice at Home. Those wishing to leave an online message for the family may do so at www.duffieldpastrick.com.
We want to especially thank our Hospice at Home family for all of the caring and wonderful things they did during his illness.
