Joyce Arlene (Schaefer) Stockman, 85, of St. Joseph passed away May 26, 2021, at her home.

Joyce was born April 16, 1936, to Otto and Elsie (Rein) Schaefer in Benton Harbor. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1954 and worked as a food service secretary for Benton Harbor schools until she retired in 1995.

Joyce married the love of her life, Robert A. Stockman, on May 28, 1966. Joyce's "feisty and fun personality" was enjoyed by her family and many friends. She was an active member of the Senior Center and Trinity Lutheran Church; a volunteer at Silver Beach Carousal and a 25-year usher for Lake Michigan College.

Joyce enjoyed a vast array of personal interests throughout her life including: golfing, bowling, quilting, traveling, gardening, reading, singing, genealogy and shopping. Joyce's greatest passion in life was spending time with her friends and beloved family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her daughters: Darlene (Mark) Bossert, Deanne (Dan) Ellard, Dawn (Jim) Merriman; sons: Dale Gleffe and Dean (Cindy) Gleffe; grandchildren: Amy, Joe, Jessica, Ashlie, Maria, Neil, Ellyn, Rose and Girum; great-grandchildren: Garren, Addy, Maia and Leo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Robert.

An open house celebration of life will be from 2-6 p.m. June 27, at the F.O.P. Lodge, 2665 Niles Road, St. Joseph.

Memorials may be made in Joyce's name to Caring Circle of Lakeland (Hospice) or Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, MI.
