Phyllis Muriel Spicer, 80, of Stevensville passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at Grand Vista Assisted Living, Coldwater.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph with Pastor Michael Willis officiating. Interment will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Stevensville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 9-10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Niles Avenue Baptist Church. Phyllis was born on Jan. 30, 1944, in Laurel, Miss., to Lewis, Sr., and Eunice (Poche) Henson. She graduated from Laurel High School and continued her education at Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi earning a bachelor's of science degree in elementary education.
Phyllis taught in Atmore, Alabama, Long Beach, Miss., and for most of her career in Stevensville at Lakeshore Public Schools where she retired. While living in Long Beach, Miss., she met the love of her life, Rick Spicer and they were married on July 26, 1970, in Niles Avenue Baptist Church, St. Joseph, Mich. She and Rick spent their entire lives in the same home.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Michael) Berlew; son, William (Shawn Bennett) Spicer; grandchildren, Brion Binkley, Steven Binkley and Elizabeth Berlew; sister, Carolyn Henson Pryor and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 51 years, Rick Spicer and brothers, Lewis (Jan) Henson, Jr. and Ken Henson.
