Richard "Dick" Lockman, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023. He was born on Jan. 8, 1938, to Adolph and Lydia (Ruff) Lockman in St. Joseph. On June 2, 1962, he married his life partner, Carol Skelley, of whom he recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Visitation with Dick's family will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, at Starks and Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 Main St., St. Joseph, MI 49085, at 1 p.m. Burial and military honors will take place at Riverview Cemetery after the burial service, with a meal following at the Stevensville American Legion, 3093 Johnson Road. For a more lasting memory, donations in Dick's name can be made out to Trinity Lutheran Church and School and/or American Legion Post 568 in Stevensville.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Lockman; children, Steve (Heidi) Lockman and Deb (Gregg) Holloway; and five grandchildren, Keaton and Brady Holloway and Nick, Zac and Emily Lockman, whom he truly loved!
Dick graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1956 and then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for three years. He entered the tool and die industry and soon after founded D&F Mold, which he ran for over 50 years and never fully retired. With his ingenuity and driven attitude, he was able to "fix" almost anything. Dick was known for his annual D&F Christmas parties which were well-attended by employees, fellow shops and family, and eagerly anticipated by everyone each year.
Dick never met a stranger and therefore had a large circle of dear friends whether it involved fishing or hunting or hanging out at the "toy barn" or American Legion. If you couldn't find him there you would usually see him driving around in "Black Beauty" checking things out with his friends. He greatly enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips with friends, taking care of his garden and lawn, and was always available to lend a hand if you needed.
Most of all faith and family were very important to Dick and having everyone together, especially his grandkids, to celebrate holidays and special events meant the world to him. He will certainly be missed and remembered fondly.

My deepest sympathies to Carol and family. It was my privilege to provide Dick and his family with transport to hospice. I'm sorry I wasn't able to come to his service as I was in Canada when Dick died. I was doing one of the things Dick enjoyed most fishing. Dick was a man with perpetual smile and friendly way about him. Dick was a kidder and a teaser who could take and as well as receive. The world lost a great guy, good husband and father

Tom and I were very sorry to hear of cousin Dick's passing. We will always remember hosting the Ruff family reunion where, occasionally, Dick would volunteer to be the auctioneer! Always muchfun. We will always remember his smile and kind demeanor. Our prayers for comfort go out to his wife, Carol and the rest of his family.

I got to know Dick in the 50's, through our mutual friend, Carl Kasischke. I haven't seen Dick in over 50 years but I still remember what a great guy he was. My condolences to the Lockwood family. Bill Ford
