Richard "Dick" John Soper, 83, of Galien died Friday, July 23, 2021, at home in the comfort of his family's presence.
His life began March 22, 1938, in Evergreen Park, Ill., to Roy J. and Mae (Schmidt) Soper.
He married Brita Skog on Oct. 5, 1963, in Danville, Calif.
Dick enjoyed watching his granddaughters participate in sports and anything they did, especially River Valley softball. Additionally, he liked woodcarving animals, primarily whales and dolphins, as well as bird-watching anytime he and Brita traveled. One of his real pleasures was hog roasts. He had a dry sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes. He would lead people through a story and they weren't sure if he was kidding or not.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Brita Soper of Galien; daughter, Kristine (Craig) Goodenough of Galien; son, Greg (Dawn) Soper of North Fort Myers, Fla.; four grandchildren: Kaitlin, Haley, Brandon, Ethan; one brother, Lee J. Soper of Henryville, Ind.; and many great, loyal employees that were like family.
Family and friends will gather for a hog roast celebration of life at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, at Pinecrest Christmas Tree Farm, 4403 Spring Creek Road, Galien, MI 49113.
