Mother Ruby Mae Smith-Earven departed this earthly life early Sunday morning, March 17, 2024, assured by 2nd Corinthians 5:1 "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."
A homegoing celebration will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, at Brotherhood COGIC, Benton Harbor. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit from 3-5 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, at Robbins Brothers Funeral Home. Family and friends wishing to leave a condolence online may do so at www.robbinsbrothersfh.com.
In Helena, Ark., on Oct. 27, 1928, the late Ruben and Idella (Brooks) Smith birthed one of three extraordinary children and they named the child Ruby Mae Smith.
Ruby married the late Pastor Leroy Earven on June 6, 1948.
Ruby Mae Earven leaves to cherish her memory her son, Larry Earven; two grandchildren: Miesha (Nat) Dorsey and Jerrold (Sonya) Coakley; two bonus granddaughters, Ronica and Jennifer Williams; two great-grandchildren: Jayston Coakley and Schuyler Coakley; her sister, Surfronia Pitts; three nieces: Jolita (Maurice) Burton, Leontyne (Pastor James L.) Hines and Renee; one nephew, Wali Muhammad and one bonus niece, Chairase Dorsey.
Mother Earven was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Earven, her parents, Ruben Smith, Willie and Idella Lee, her brother, Sammie Smith "My Baby"; one nephew, Tony Pitts and one special great nephew Antonio Chears.
