Virgil R. Shurley, 88, of Lake City, Ark., passed away Oct. 20, 2021 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Ark.

He was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Lonoke, Ark., to Emmit and Ruth Pipkin Shurley.

Virgil was a member of the American Legion in Baroda for many years. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening and mostly spending time with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 21 years, Barbara Smith Shurley of the home; one daughter, Sherrie Shurley of Lake City, Ark.; five grandchildren, Amber Foster, Sarah Mensinger, Dede Altherr, Dustin Mensinger, Joe Bradley; four great-grandchildren, Gavin Foster, Danny Altherr, Heather Bradley, Kyle Altherr; one sister, Alta Fisher of Jonesboro, Ark.; one brother, Howard Shurley of Newport, Ind.; and a host of other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Maxine Shurley; one son, Danny Bradley; two brothers, David Shurley and Donald Shurley.

The family will be having a memorial service at a later date in New Troy.
