Betty Price
February 4, 1949 - October 20, 2025
Raleigh, North Carolina - Betty A. Price, 76, of Largo, Florida, passed away peacefully at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community in Raleigh, NC, on Monday, October 20th, following a decade-long battle with Alzheimer's.
She was born in Raleigh on February 4, 1949, to the late Ida Chisenhall and James Robert Adams. While in high school at Broughton High School in Raleigh, she began her professional career working as a cashier at a Roses Discount Store. Following graduation, she started taking night classes at North Carolina Wesleyan University. It was not uncommon for Betty to work an eight-hour day, drive 45 minutes to Rocky Mount, NC, attend class, and then drive back to Raleigh, often arriving home around midnight. After nearly a decade, she graduated magna cum laude from NC Wesleyan in 1989 with a BS degree in Accounting. Even as she juggled family life and her career, Betty's love of education and pursuit of knowledge continued as she became a Certified Public Accountant in 1992 and earned an MBA from the University of Phoenix in 2009.
Beyond her career as the Controller and Financial Manager at several companies, including Memorex/Telex, Martin-Marietta, Progress Energy, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield, she still found time to teach at the University of Mount Olive and her alma mater, NC Wesleyan University.
In addition to her husband of 17 years, the Reverend Doctor Michael Price, Betty is survived by a son, Rodney Smith of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico; two sisters, Julia Herring of Raleigh, Sondra Bledsoe of Rolesville, and a brother, Mike (Wanda) Adams of Clayton, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
As a devoted Christian, Betty always enjoyed sharing her time and talent through church ministries. In addition to helping with several new church builds around the country and working in inner city food pantries, she served faithfully as an assistant church treasurer, a member of the Diaconate, and as a children's Sunday School teacher.
A private scattering of Betty's remains will occur at one of her favorite places, the beach at Ft. DeSoto County Park in Pinellas County, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Betty A. Price Memorial Scholarship at North Carolina Wesleyan University, 3400 N. Wesleyan Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The scholarship benefits single mothers pursuing their higher education.
