Charles Powers Obituary

Charles Frances Powers, III

November 10, 1943 - April 11, 2025

Raleigh, North Carolina - Charles "Charlie" F. Powers III was born to Charles F. Powers II and Pearl Streb Powers. A lifelong resident of Raleigh, Charlie attended Cathedral School and Cathedral Latin High School managing to skip two grades along the way. He attended Belmont Abbey College and UNC School of Law graduating in 1963 as one of the youngest graduates in school history. He was a proud Tar Heel through and through. Some of his flights to away football games with a group of friends became legendary.

An accomplished corporate and real estate lawyer, Charlie spent most of his 55-year career in faithful service as counsel to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh. He was a consigliere and friend to Bishops and Priests throughout his lifetime. Charlie was recently honored with Papal Honors and will be inducted posthumously into the Order of Saint Gregory – an achievement he cherished. His work with the Diocese led to many lifelong friendships.

Charlie practiced law with Parker Sink and Powers for many years. He then joined Poyner Spruill in 2002 where he continued to practice until his retirement in December 2024. He loved his time at Poyner Spruill and had great respect for the attorneys and legal professionals he worked alongside.

Charlie was a loving Father and Grandfather. He is survived by his son, Dan and granddaughter Naomi Powers and by his sister Kathryn Powers Myzska and her husband Michael. He is also survived by his long time significant other, Sandy Chrisawn, her son Charlie (Corie) and their sons, Connor and Carson. Charlie's Irish roots led him to Savannah annually for the St. Patrick's Day celebration where he leaves behind many beloved cousins in both Savannah and Tybee Island, Georgia.

A Memorial Service will be held at The Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, 715 Nazareth Street in Raleigh on April 22 at 2:00 pm. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 on April 21 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road in Raleigh.
