Lillington, North Carolina - Danny Lee Roberts, 88, of Lillington, died Sunday, February 5, 2023 at his home with his family by him.
Danny was born June 22, 1934 in Chatham County, NC to the late Lucille Light Roberts Whitt and James Garland Roberts. He was a graduate of Siler City High School class of 1952, Campbell University, Pfeiffer University, and UNC Chapel Hill. Danny was a veteran of the US Army, served as coach for Campbell University Basketball and Golf teams, and coach for Eastern Randolph Basketball.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Stockstill Roberts; brothers, Steve Whitt, and Nelson Whitt.
Family was incredibly important to Danny. He is survived by his children, Allison Klingel (Kris), Mark Roberts (Suzanne), George Roberts (Tracey), Jean Gentry (Jerry), and Laura Currin (Terry); brother, Eddie Roberts (Molly); grandchildren, Jeremy Crewe (Brittany), Ashlee Crewe (Nikki), Jordan Klingel, Sara Klingel, Mary Roberts (Chris), Daniel Roberts, Chloe Roberts, Olivia Roberts, Noah Carnahan, Ryan Currin, and Jaylyn Spitzer; great grandchildren, Nyla, Taylor, Rylee, Kennedy, Millie, Malachi, Finley, Luna, Cypress, and Marlee.
The family would like to thank the men and women of VFW Post 6722 who were so generous with their friendship over the years. To all of his golfing buddies in and around Lillington, he truly loved all of you. To all of the men who played for and were shaped by him - at Campbell or Eastern Randolph - you were like sons to him and your friendship after your playing days was a true light in his life. To his friends at Mt. Ariel UMC, he was fed by worship with you. Finally, it was his faith in the God with whom he now rests and rejoices that powered his living.
A memorial service will be held at later date.
