Janice Kay Grube "Jan"
June 15, 1933 - November 18, 2025
Cape Carteret, North Carolina - Janice Kay Grube "Jan",
a beloved resident of Cape Carteret, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her home on November 18, 2025, at the age of ninety-two.
Jan was born in Austin, Texas, the only child of George and Gwendolyn Gordon. During her formative years, Jan and her parents moved to Edwardsville, Illinois, where she spent her childhood and adolescence. After completing high school, she pursued higher education at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, earning her bachelor's degree in Broadcasting and Communications.
Following her graduation, Jan moved to Oklahoma City to begin
a career in broadcasting. It was there that she met Fred Grube,
a young Captain in the United States Marine Corps. Their relationship quickly blossomed, culminating in their marriage in 1957.
Jan shared 62 years of devoted marriage with Lt. Colonel (Retired) Frederick Grube. Together, they embraced the adventures of military life, supporting one another through numerous assignments across the United States and abroad. While living in Fredericksburg, Virginia, they welcomed their two children, daughter Pam, followed two years later by their son, Paul.
In 1971, the Grube family made their home in Cape Carteret, North Carolina. Jan became
a dedicated and active member of the community, offering her time, talents, and energy to many causes. Her deep interest in politics led her to become
a founding member, Charter Secretary and later President of Crystal Coast Republican Women. Jan's leadership and commitment were evident as she rose to prominent positions at both local and state levels. Among her many accolades, she was honored as the first recipient of the 3rd Congressional District's Volunteer of the Year Award, which was later named the Janice K. Grube Award. She received the Woman of the Year Award for the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women and was recognized as the Federation's Tribute to Women Honoree. As an outstanding representative of the District, Jan attended numerous Republican National and North Carolina GOP Conventions as
a Delegate. She also served as Secretary of the North Carolina Republican party,
a position she valued highly.
Jan's life was rich well beyond her political interests. Sports and gardening were among her many passions. She found joy in playing golf, cheering on Duke basketball, and attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sports events. Jan was also enthusiastic about creative hobbies, particularly painting, and her artwork can be seen in her own home and those of her children. She and Fred enjoyed travelling, proudly visiting every state in the country.
Jan was fun-loving yet tough, embodying the energy and resilience of
a military spouse. She was fiercely loyal, committed to family and country, and lived life on her terms.
She is survived by her children, Pam White (Kevin), Paul Grube (Mimi); grandchildren, Stephanie Broughton (Matt), Andrea Cercone (Anthony), Jennifer Jones (Kevin), Emily Gardner (Jon), John Grube (Kendal); and her eight great grandchildren.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, Fred.
a memorial service will be held in Morehead City, at Munden Funeral Home, at

The Salvation Army of Carteret County in Jan's memory.
