Durham, North Carolina - Mr. Joe Cohn, 79, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021 following a short period of declining health at Parkview Rehabilitation in Chapel Hill.
Born at Watts Hospital in Durham on December 22, 1941, Joe Cohn was a resident of Durham for most of his life. He was the son of the late Elijah Alexander Cohn and Lona Johnson Cohn. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kitty Crews Cohn, and his three brothers Kenneth, Bobby, and Dan Cohn. Mr. Cohn is survived by his sons, Joseph E. Cohn of Spruce Pines, Bryan and wife Ashley Cohn of Oxford, and his grandchildren, Jackson, Lila, and Rhett Cohn.
Joe was a man of many talents. He could be found shag dancing the night away to beach music or painting a landscape in his youth. He was a passionate gardener and could also be found in the kitchen cooking for his friends and family more often than not. He spent his early career as a restaurateur. Later in life, he changed careers, and following his brothers, and went to work for Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company in Durham, where he retired in 1997.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 5th at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
Flowers are welcome, or a memorial donation can be made to the Durham Rescue Mission, PO Box 11368, Durham, NC 27703.
