Archers Lodge, North Carolina - Mr. John Russell Murray Sr., of Archers Lodge, NC, passed away peacefully on his 87th birthday, October 24, 2025. Russell was born in Mapleville, NC, to the late Spencer and Louise Murray, he dedicated his life to family, community service, and the joy of growing produce.
The family will receive friends from 12:30PM to 1:45PM on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at White Oak Baptist Church in Clayton, NC. Funeral Services will be 2:00PM Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at White Oak Baptist Church in Clayton. Officiating will be Rev. Bryant Wilson. Burial will follow in Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery in Benson.
A pillar to his family and many friends, he was known throughout his life for his service to the community. He loved coaching youth football and officiating high school football. He touched countless lives with his gentle demeanor and generous heart, offering a helping hand or a word of encouragement to any and all who needed it.
Russell's favorite past time was golf at Pine Hollow Golf Club. He loved the game of golf and considered many of the players there true friends.
In his garden, Russell found his greatest peace. He spent countless hours tending to his vegetables and fruit trees, always supplying fresh produce to friends' and family's that asked or needed it. His garden was a place of beauty and abundance, and a testament to his patience and hard work.
Russell was a devoted family man. He was married to Rebecca Parker Murray (deceased). He is survived by son, John (Brenda), son, Spencer (Laura) and son, Joel (Carol); six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to White Oak Baptist Church Brotherhood Fund.
