Pinehurst, North Carolina - Lois Jane Riley Holt, 90, passed away on March 26, 2026. She was born in 1935 in Durham, NC to the late Luther and Ellen Riley. She was also preceded in death by son, David; and former husband, Jack.

Mrs. Holt was a graduate of Durham High School, class of 1953 She then went on to graduate from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Upon completing her education, she began a lengthy career in banking until her retirement in 2012. Lois served her community through several civic organizations such as, Docent- Governor's mansion, Raleigh Jaycettes, Durham Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Durham County Library, United Way of Moore County, Kiwanis club of the Sandhills and Rotary Foundation. She also served with Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities in Southern Pines and the Moore County chapter English Speaking Union.

Mrs. Holt was published poet, author, lecturer and philanthropist and was a founding member of the NC Poetry Society. She was a featured columnist in The Pilot newspaper of Southern Pines. She was a weekly host of Community Services Program with Muirfield Broadcasting.

Mrs. Holt is survived by her son, Mark and his husband, Eddie; and their partner, Jeff. She is also survived by many loving family members, including her two great-nieces, Lilly and Violet.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 2nd at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham. The family will receive friends and visitors from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Maplewood Cemetery. Following the graveside service, the family invites guest to join them for a reception at 1413 Ruffin St., Durham, NC 27701.
