Tallahassee, Florida - Virginia Ruth Landers Lawrence, 78, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from a brave fight with COVID-19.
Graveside service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee, FL. Viewing will 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Strong & Jones Funeral Home. Service may be viewed via Zoom at http://www.TallahasseeVirtualMemorials.com. Strong & Jones Funeral Home, 629 W. Brevard Street, Tallahassee, FL, is handling the arrangements.
Virginia is survived by her husband, John Edward Lawrence; two sons, John Edward II (Jennifer) and Jason Earl (Kimberly Aunchman) Lawrence; two grandsons, John III and Justin Lawrence; two step granddaughters, Jilian and Lauryn Aunchman; one sister, Barbara Kay (Reuben) Brigety; one brother, Rodney Walker Landers; two brothers-in-law, Bobby Louis and Harry Lawrence; one sister-in-law, Betty Jean (Horace) Cameron and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to FAMU/Lincoln High Class of 1959, P.O. Box 6083, Tallahassee, FL 32314.

My mom and dad, Viola Ward and the late John Ward became friends with the Lawrences and Landers at St. Mary PB Church. Our families served in the church together and enjoyed fellowship outside of church at FAMU football games at each other's homes, etc. We don't live in Tallahassee any more, but my mom and I visited Mrs. Virginia Lawrence at TMH in 2019. We fellowshipped and prayed like when they were Deaconesses. Mr. Lawrence and Mrs. Lawrence were role models, trailblazers, and mentors to many of us growing up. Virginia Lawrence will be missed. God be with you Mr. Lawrence, John, Jason, and loved ones.

I had the pleasure of meeting Virginia through her son Jason Lawrence a few times and I have to say she raised a great guy and obviously loved her family. Each time we met her and her husband were happy times and it's obvious she is also loved by many. Many condolences to the Lawrence family.
