Allen Lindquist Obituary

Lindquist, Allen Passlow
July 16, 1932 - May 19, 2008

Allen Passlow Lindquist, 75, Venice, died May 19, 2008.
The services will be private.
He is survived by his loving family: wife, Mima; daughters Gail and Karen; son-in-law Herb; and grandchildren Savannah, Michael and Jared.
Allen was born on July 16, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Some of his accomplishments were serving his country during the Korean War and making maps in the U.S. Pentagon. He was a party chief for a team of surveyors on the construction of the World Trade Center from 1966-1972. He surveyed many roads from Westchester, N.Y., to the east end of Long Island. He worked on bridges and remarkable New York landmarks such as the South Street Seaport. He loved nature, golf, the beach and, most of all, his family and friends. His family will always be thinking of him every day in their life. We love you, Pop-pop.

Just after midnight on May 19th...2008. Was it a moment ago? You are thought of every single day. Spending time in St. Finbar's church today was very spiritual. You will remain in my heart forever! Little things in life mean the most and like you always said, "you can't take it with you!" Your words shall stay with us always, Dad. "Love and fear cannot dwell together"; "Surrender to the laws of life"; "God got me out of the gutter not it's up to me to get the gutter out of me"; "Get rid of negative thoughts!"; "Bend your knee before you bend your elbow - I can't, he can, so let him!"; and, lastly, one that you lived by: "...we see in honesty, sobriety, forgiveness, amends, and love signs of a spiritual awakening..." You are free from pain, and on a new journey, Dad. We will all see YOU when the wind shifts. Love and mahalo, Gail Allison XOXOXO 05-19-09,2:22pm PST

Dear Dad,
Tonight is the year anniversary, which marks the end of your journey on this Earth. May you rest in peace knowing our family is eternally grateful for the love and sacrifice you bestowed upon us. May you dwell in perpetual sunshine in the house of the Lord surrounded by unyielding love. I miss you dad and I think of you everyday. Love always, Karen

This is my favorite golf quote: “Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball where it lies.”

I miss you, Dad, every single day. Gardening at my school is helping me think of how you cherished our home on Davis Street and that digging in the dirt never hurt anyone. You remain in my heart. See ya when the wind shifts! I love you! Gail XOXOXO

It was a pleasure to know Uncle Al. As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

As we all begin this new year, we remember those who have left us and pray for their safe keeping. Our love only grows with the passing of time. I miss you all; Uncle Allie, Daddy, and Cousin Danny but am happy to know that you three cousins are all together waiting for us to meet again "some sunny day"....
Love, Kathi

I have been thinking about my Dad a lot lately. There is such a profound emptiness where I used to feel his presence. I am still learning from his words of wisdom and carry his love in my heart. I think and pray for all those who have lost a dear one to cancer. Mike said, "Pop's time on earth was too short but he will live forever in our hearts." Every now and then Jared will notice a far off look in my eyes and know I am thinking of my dad and he says, "You miss Pop, don't you?" I find comfort in knowing that along with my dad's words of wisdom I now carry my sons' wise words in my heart.

That's right Shannon Big Al was always good with kids. "Uncle Al the kiddies' pal" Uncle Lenny would say. No wonder his grandchildren loved him so much!

Although the years have been too many since I last saw you, I remember how sweet you were to me when I was a wee little one. Everytime I go to Walt Whitman Mall I always think of you....(I remember the time (one of the many) the fire alarm went off and you told me not to worry. The years have passed since then and I now imagine you in heaven with my Daddy and my Uncle Lenny looking down on all your loved ones (with drinks in hands) having a laugh, happy and peaceful. I will miss you as will many. May your spirit soar.....With love, Shannon

Al left me with many fond memories and sadness in my heart. He was a wonderful
father-in-law and when with his grandchildren I could see in his eyes the
genuine love he had felt for them. Although we were 1500 miles away, and I
didn't think of him every day, it was comforting to know he was there. I miss
him.

In our hearts every day...forever. Miss you and love you Pop-Pop/Dad! See you one when the wind shifts. Aloha, Savannah-Grace and Gail XOXO

With mixed emotions we say goodbye. For while Al has entered eternal paradise, his family and friends will go on missing him every day until we are reunited in God's kingdom once again. Lord please comfort and bless Al's loved ones in this time, until we see that glorious day.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Allen in person, I feel as though I knew him through his daughter Gail.

Over the course of our friendship, Gail has shared so many wonderful childhood memories, and Saturday morning conversations that it often seemed as though Allen and Mima were right down the street, instead of thousands of miles away. My only regret is that I never had the honor of first person contact.

All the best,
K
