Pannhorst, Charles Walker Sr.

May 21, 1927 - Aug. 27, 2008



Charles Walker Pannhorst Sr., 81, Port Charlotte, formerly of Long Island, N.Y., died Aug. 27, 2008.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Charlotte Chapel. Rev. David Blood and Thomas Pannhorst will officiate with military honors to follow by the U.S. Navy. Burial will be at Sarasota VA National Cemetery at a later date.

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Jack Gurney of Port Charlotte; sons Thomas Gloria and Charles Jr. Joni , both of Port Charlotte, John of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Michael Rochelle of Phoenix; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a stepson, Bruce Vogel of Long Island.

Preceded in death by his stepson, Scott Vogel.

Charles was born May 21, 1927, in Jersey City, N.J., and moved to Port Charlotte in 1990 from Long Island, N.Y.

He was a retired aircraft technician for Grumman Aerospace Corp.; a volunteer EMT in Bellrose, N.Y; a World War II veteran, U.S. Navy; and member of American Legion Post 110 and DAV, both of Port Charlotte.

Charles was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care Port Charlotte Hospice House 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238
