Marilyn Felthousen Obituary

On July 10, 2016, after battling a longterm ailment, Jesus called Marilyn D. Felthousen home with her loving daughter by her side. Marilyn was born September 3, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Malcolm Downs and Kathryn Downs. She was one of six siblings. Marilyn is survived by her five siblings, Malcolm Downs, Debbie Kearney, Floyd Downs, David Downs and Gladys Holl and her five children, Kenneth Felthousen, Jr. (Bonnie), Jeffrey Felthousen, Kathy Pierce (David), Scott Felthousen and Eric Felthousen. After moving to Schenectady, she worked at a local hospital as a Registered Nurse. On November 8th, 1952, Marilyn married Ken Felthousen and moved to Johnstown to start their family and enjoyed 63 happy years together. In the early 1970s, Ken and Marilyn acquired Danker Florist in Albany, New York enabling them to continue to grow and focus on their retail florist business. While conducting business at Danker Florist, they were awarded both 'The First to Ever Send an F.T.D. Floral Arrangement to Russia' and 'The Top One Hundred F.T.D. Florists in the Country.' During Marilyn and Ken's ownership, Danker Florist was used as the prime example of a florist business for Cobleskill College students. Ken and Marilyn's direct involvement in Danker Florist ended in its sale in 2004. This sale allowed Ken and Marilyn to retire and pursue their interests. Once retired, Marilyn and her husband, Ken enjoyed spending time at their home in Grove Isle Vero Beach, Florida during the winter. They spent the summer months at their camp in Caroga Lake playing golf and held family reunions yearly at the camp in Caroga Lake. Family occasions were also marked by a camp full of both grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was very important to her. She was an avid artist, who loved painting and crafting squawberry bowls from what she acquired from the woods at their camp. Marilyn enjoyed life to the fullest with her family and friends. She was a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed. Marilyn was of the Christian faith and attended First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown, New York. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Johnstown Cemetery immediately following the service.
