Doug, as of today, you have been gone from us for one year now. Know that you are missed. Yes, life does go on, but it's not quite the same without you in our lives.
Ed had a dream and it happened this summer. He went on a golfing trip to Scotland and...he brought a little piece of you with him. I'm sure you were smiling down on him while he was there.
Rest in peace with Our Lord, dear friend.
Love,
Pat and Dick Metropolis

Dear Doug,
You are greatly missed by everyone. We will always be grateful for all the fun we had over the years whenever we went out with you, especially in Sarasota. You always made everyone laugh with your wonderful stories. We will remember you as a wonderful person, a great golfer, and a good friend with a magical sense of humor. For now, rest in peace, no more pain.

Daddy, your 65th birthday just passed and I have to say it was one of the hardest days I have had to endure by far. Though, I do have to say I got into my first car accident without you and I did well AND it wasn't my fault (I know you are laughing). I do have to say that when it happened, I immediately picked up the phone to call you, and on top of all the emotions of being in a major accident, I had to endure the fact that I couldn't have you to talk me through it. I am back in school and I got a 96% on my first biology test and the class average was 79%, as soon as I left class and was driving home I thought to myself, Dad would be proud! Life without you has been so hard for me, for us, your family. I think about you everyday and I am constantly asking myself in certain situations “What would Dad do?” It seems to help. I miss you more and more everyday.
I love you always and forever,
Kelli

Happy Birthday Grammy-Papa <3
It all still feels so unreal to me, I guess it is suiting that you will be spending your birthday with the woman that gave birth to you... say hi for me. School is going really well, but I am sure you already know that. As for me... I am okay, I miss you so much though. The thought of my birthday without you, Thanksgiving without you, and Christmas without you breaks my heart. Even though the past few years we haven't spent these days together I have always cherished the phone calls and the wonderful cards with your little notes that simply state "I Love You, Keep It Up". I know you will be with us in our memories and hearts. Watch over me <3
p.s - I got a 99 on my first math quiz and my English teacher told me I was too smart to be in her class =) thought that would make you smile.
Love always and forever,
Alyssa

Dear Doug,
You were my husband for 38 years, a loving and generous father to your son Doug and your daughters Kim and Kelli, a Grammy-Papa to Alyssa and a Grampy to David and Tyler. You were a very special part of our complete family and the many friends we have made through the years. Your life has touched us all. Losing you has left a hole in the hearts of our entire family. You will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who were lucky enough to know you.
Doug, Kim & Kelli, Your father will always live in your memories, and in the way you see the world, you will never forget your Dad's face, or the sound of his voice. You will never forget the traditions he handed down, the things he stood for, they are his gift and your legacy.
Doug, You are truly going to be missed. I will always cherish all the years we spent together. You should be very proud of all you have accomplished in your life, you worked very hard for it. I will be thinking of you on your birthday tomorrow. I will always Love You, Linda

Dear Doug,
Here we are in Dracut after almost two weeks in Sarasota. We had our plane tickets in anticipation of seeing you just one more time. It was not to be. Instead,we helped Joanne fulfill her promise to you and brought you "home". Spiritually, you are home with Our Lord and truly at peace after much suffering. Sarasota will never be the same without you. You were truly a "best friend". We shall miss you, but you will remain forever in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Doug, with Our Lord.
Love,
Ellie and Ed

GrammyPapa,
No one can ever understand how much I love you, and will always love you. I still haven't accepted that you are gone because we are both too young for this, I'm not ready to give you up. You are the most amazing person that I have ever met in my entire life and to try and think that you will not be there at birthdays and holidays or celebrations just does not seem real and it makes me so numb inside. I am greatful that you are no longer in pain, but you never should have been in pain in the first place. I want you to know that I will never forget our Grammy-Papa and Alyssa days or any of the great memories that I have of you. From going miniature golfing to disney world all the way to sitting on your lap watching A Christmas Story eating chocolate covered cherries. You weren't just your run-of-the-mill grandfather, you were a GrammyPapa. I hope that in whatever college, love and life throws my way I make you proud.
forever <3

To all who have written here,
I want to thank you for your kind words and for sharing some of your memories of my Dad.
To Dad,
I have never been known as a wordsmith and am struggling to put my thoughts into words here, but here I go. My earliest memories of you are filled with joy and happiness. We are playing with trucks on the floor, playing catch in the yard, or you are teaching me how to fish at the “Duckie Pond”. As busy as you were with work and taking care of the house and yard you always set aside time to play with me. Throughout my school years you were always there to give me sound advice and to help me navigate through life’s obstacles. Although I didn’t always take the advice offered when I did the results were always much better. Hindsight is truly 20/20. I could sit for hours and listen to you tell stories, you would paint a picture so vivid that I was transported there and could see the story unfold through your eyes. I have never laughed so hard or so long as I have while listening to you. As I entered into the workforce our relationship matured and you became my Mentor. Your experience and insight as a leader has been the cornerstone of my professional life. Your teaching and guidance has helped me countless times when dealing with issues in my work life. The standards you and Mom tried to instill in me have helped Paula and I raise our boys. I am grateful that David and Tyler were able to know you but am greatly saddened that you were taken from them so soon. I promise I will pass on to them everything that you have taught me and will raise them to the best of my ability. Dad I miss you dearly.
Love your son,
Doug Jr.

Dear Doug,
Bob and I have the best memories of you, Linda and the kids. Over 40 years of memories, watching the boys play football and you always getting stuck carrying Timmy's "stretch armstrong." Wonderful holidays you and Linda had for the whole family. It was always "open house" on Christmas night. Your great sense of humor and generosity to all that you met. You were a special guy. Everyone always had great respect for you and your family. When I think of you I will always smile.

I am going to miss you so much, Daddy. You were my first true love, my mentor, my best friend, my rock, my hero, my Daddy. You were the person who helped me through all of the hardships in my life without judgment, as well as, all the good times when you would laugh with me or call me silly. I know how proud you were of me and I can rest easily knowing you will be watching over me. Thank you for teaching me the ways of the world, filling me with all your knowledge and wisdom. I will forever appreciate all your stories and your knee-slapping sense of humor. You will always be the "wind beneath my wings," and I plan on soaring with you guiding me every step of the way. I am so proud to be your baby girl. No child could ask for a better father. I will always and forever be your sunshine as you will be mine. Until we meet again.
I will love you always and forever,
Kelli

Dear Uncle Doug,
I cherish all the childhood memories I have with you in Malden -- playing football with us kids, cherishing that brown toyota (remember that motorcycle you had??), swimming in the pool, and the stories of Brucie on the fence. I missed seeing you on Friday nights....You always made everyone laugh and told a great story. I miss you and your big grin. Until we meet again....All my love,

Uncle Doug~ I feel lucky to have so many memories of you. I remember how you could do that deep voice that sounded so cool like a singer in an acapella band... and your laugh... and the Friday nights at my house... I love you! I miss you already... and even though I'm on the other side of the country, I will still take care of your baby, my other half, Kelli. Love you always... Until we meet again... Amy Cakes
