Ethel Ryder Obituary

Ryder, Ethel Katherine
Jul 23, 1928 - Dec 01, 2020
Ethel Katherine (Bulat) Ryder passed away peacefully December 1 2020 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Ethel was born in Canton Ohio in 1927, one of six sisters. She was a proud graduate of Canton McKinley High School and after graduating, while working at the phone company, she met her husband Walter on a blind date to a Cleveland Indians game.
After moving to Florida and raising 3 children together, Ethel pursued a nursing degree and was employed by Sarasota Memorial Hospital for over 25 years. After she retired she continued to work at the hospital as a volunteer and went on to earn her 10,000 hour volunteer pin of which she was very proud!
Ethel loved spending time with her family and cats. She enjoyed reading, watching all kinds of sports on TV as well as QVC and never missed a "special value of the day"! She loved attending church every Sunday as well as bible study during the week.
Ethel was often described as a "strong woman". She was a strong woman but what was even stronger was her love for her family. Her concern was always for her family and never for herself. Ethel had several medical issues in her last year and rarely complained a true testament to her strong character.
Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Bulat, her husband Walter, her sisters Julia Altimore, Helen Jarosz, and Anne Gabor. She is survived by and will be lovingly missed by her children John Ryder of Sarasota, Craig Ryder of Sarasota, Helen Conger (Darren) of Massillon Ohio, her sisters Peggy Fischer, Joanne Bennett (Roman), her three grandchildren Sarah Maurath (Freddy), Adam Ryder (Katherine), Kaitlin Conger, and several great grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Bay Village, and Magnolia Assisted Living of Sarasota for all of their kindness and care. Memorial donations may be made to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
