Saurez, Floreal "Flody"

Floreal "Flody" Suarez, 84, of Sarasota, passed peacefully while surrounded by family on January 29, 2014. He was a beloved husband to Patricia "Patti" Suarez, devoted father to Suzanne, Flody Jr., Edward and James, and grandfather to Austin, Brandon and Katherine Shea. He also taught and inspired many young men and women during his nearly 30-year tenure as teacher and basketball coach at Sarasota High School. He was born and raised in Anmoore, West Virginia and graduated from West Virginia University, where he played basketball. He was also an avid baseball player and fan and once made the farm league team for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also served his country in the U.S. Army. He was the only son of Spanish immigrants, Eduardo Sierra Suarez and Angelina Barbao Suarez. Services will be held at 10am at Incarnation Church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Flody Saurez Scholarship Memorial c/o Sarasota High School, 1000 S. School Av., Sarasota, FL 34237.

Mrs Suarez, Suzi, Flody, and Eddie, You know I love you all. So many memories growing up on Bruce Lane. The first thing that came to my mind: 35 plus kids playing everywhere, 6:00 pm and time to go in. The first time I was called in. My parents had a huge bell attached to the house "dong, dong", Mrs Cook had a little, ceramic dinner bell, "ding, ding". I heard pots, pans, toy whistles. Then I heard a horse followed with a Loud whistle. I said, "where did that come from?" And Suzi (with her head held down with embarassment) said, "myyy . . Dad." I loved it! Mr. Suarez always reminded me of Chevy Chase. I told him many times. I know this is a difficult time and your family has been through so much. I'm praying for some comfort. Our Love to you! Were have all the years gone? To the Suarez family, from my loving heart goes out to you during this difficult time. As a student and personal friend of our family, Mr. Flody brought many happy moments in my life and left a treasure trove of memories. I will never forget him. It's the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you will remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles. Let us all remember that death takes the body. God takes the soul. Our mind holds the memories. Our heart keeps the love. Our faith lets us know we will meet again. Amen. I pray a message to you from our Lord Jesus Christ and Mr. Flody. Never should your heart feel lonely though I may seem far away. From a place up in the heavens I'll be watching you everyday. You are always my love precious, the joy eternal of my life. Let my presence bring you comfort should you ever battle strife. Know that my spirit is with you – angles ready standing by – for every step you take tomorrow and for every breath you sigh. Soon before you even know it, together in paradise we will be. Flody was the best teacher I ever met at Sarasota High School. Flody's sense of humor made many boring faculty meetings tolerable.
