Fred R. Wellner

Fred R. Wellner, 82, Sarasota, died Feb. 26, 2003. He was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Munich, Germany, and came to Sarasota in 1989 from Santa Rosa, Calif. He retired in 1981 as general manager of television and corporate vice president for General Electric, serving over 30 years. He graduated from the German Naval College in Flensburg in 1941 and served on U-boats until 1945 in the north Atlantic and Mediterranean. He graduated from the University of Munich in 1949 and received an M.E.E. from Syracuse University in 1958. Survivors include his wife, Gerda; a daughter, Kristin Switzer of Canada; and one grandchild. No services are planned. National Cremation Society, Sarasota chapter, is in charge.
