Hester Duane Obituary

Duane, Hester Distasio
March 25, 2010

Hester Distasio Duane, of Sarasota, formerly of Houston, died March 25, 2010.
Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie Glaser of Sarasota; a son, Louis Distasio of Gulf Port; a stepdaughter, Mary Ellen Krohne; stepsons Denny, James and William; and grandchildren
Christopher Glaser and Daniel Distasio.
A registered nurse by training, Hester had a distinguished career in orthopedic nursing in St. Petersburg and Sarasota. In 1980 Hester followed her creative talents by moving to Houston to join her dear friend, Betty Hemus, in the business of remodeling homes. But Hester never could permanently leave her beloved beach and Siesta Key, so she returned to Sarasota, where she actively gave back to the community with her volunteer activities as a docent at the museum and with the wine festival until health issues forced her retirement.
A world traveler, Hester brought home treasures from the countries she visited and creatively displayed them in her beautifully decorated home. But, most of all, Hester loved to entertain. Her dinners and parties were legend, bringing together her many friends.
Hester will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her families, her dear friends throughout the country and her neighbors. She will be remembered as a great lady who definitely lived life to its fullest. She leaves a void in the lives of many.
In lieu of flowers, please support Hester's favorite charity, National Jewish Health (respiratory hospital), 1400 Jackson St., Denver, CO 80206, or the charity of your choice.
A celebration of Hester's life will be announced at a later date.

Louis & Gayle, Stephanie & Larry. Gigi was a very special lady, although we didn't get to see her as much as I would have like, when we did, she always greeted us with the same enthusiasm as she did her family. My prayers and love go out to You and Daniel and Christopher.

I feel blest to have known Hester. I was her room mate on several trips. We also liked shoe shopping as we have the same size shoe. We went to baseball games too. I spent several days at her home on Siesta Key. We walked the beach and talked. She was such good company.I am fortunate to have known her.

The Angels picked a flower from Life's Garden just today.
A rare and fragile Lily, with petals worn and frayed.
They gently placed the flower in a shiny golden vase.
In Heaven's Eternal garden, she gladly took her place.
She grows there in the garden now with ample sun and shade.
Memories of earthly life have fast begun to fade.
Nurtured by God's loving hand and sheltered from the wind.
Her petals glow with Heaven's light as she blossoms once again.

May you find peace and solace in the beauty that Hester brought to this world and know that the very best parts of her live within everyone she touched.

Hester will be sorely missed by our family for several reasons. She opened her beautiful Siesta Key home to us back in 2001 for a family vacation that we still talk about! She gave us a place to live while we were waiting for our house to close back in 2003 and she gave us valuable local knowledge. But more importantly, her grace and her legendary style are what we'll always remember her for. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and a true friend to those closest to her. Anybody lucky enough to have known her have been enriched because of her. Her life was nothing short of remarkable.

With much love,
Carol and Michael Burke and children
