Irene Cookinham, of Dearborn, MI and Sarasota, FL passed away on April 29 at the age of 94. Predeceased by husband, Dr. Franklin Cookinham, and brother, Vincent Drobnak. Irene retired from the Ford Motor Co. design center. Visitation at the Dearborn Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home on Monday, May 10, 3-5pm. Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Dearborn on Tuesday, May 11, at 11am. Interment Glen Eden Cemetery, Livonia, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Michigan Parkinson's Foundation or the Michigan Cancer Society.

I recently learned about Irene's passing. Life took us on different paths and we hadn't seen each other in about 6-7 years. I enjoyed her wit and intelligence -- and definitely her love of life. I know you are with your beloved husband -- and that makes me happy. liliane.

Irene always thought of others and if she saw a need she did what she could to fill it. She loved to make little children her friends and appreciated their imagination, always patient with their limitations and reassuring them how special they where. She worked so hard to stay fit even into her 90's. She did not complain and said positive things. We shared the process of our macular degeneration and supported each other. I am sorry she left so quickly. She will remain an encouragement to all who knew her.

My Dear Irene...
I first met you when you walked into Millie’s Restaurant in Sarasota, Fl..I have recently just started working there (Nov 2020) as hostess and immediately liked you! You would come in for coffee everyday for your 2 cups of coffee ( no matter how much pain you were in or having that day) and we would talk. You brightened my day with your presence and kindness. You have such a love for the children and always had a small stuffed animal for any child who may be there that day . It warmed my heart to see your thoughtfulness and kindness. I would walk you out to your car and we would have intimate little talks. I still find myself looking for you to come in for your coffee everyday.
I will forever miss you Dear Irene...My Friend!

I was fortunate enough to meet and become friends with Irene when she started dating Frank, who lived across the street from me.

We continued to meet in Dearborn and Sarasota for coffee over the years. Irene was a huge support to me when my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. I will always value her wisdom and understanding.

She was always so active, energetic and positive! I will miss her and our visits over coffee.
