James Baugher Obituary

The Rev. James W. "Jim" Baugher, 81, Venice, formerly of Eldorado, Ill., died Sept. 14, 2008.
The memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church in Venice. Ewing Funeral Home in Venice is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judy; a brother, Ed Jr. of Eldorado; a sister, Nela Mae Schlau of Centralia, Ill.; daughters Renee Owens of Jacksonville and Karen Ness of South Dakota; a son, Kent of Jacksonville; stepdaughters Bonnie Thomas of Centennial, Colo., and Kathleen Jansen of Winter Springs; a stepson, Don Shipman Jr. of California; 15 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Jim graduated from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He was a member of the Southern Illinois United Methodist Conference until 1960, when he moved to Florida. Jim served several churches in the Florida United Methodist Conference, including Trinity United Methodist Church in North Port, before retiring to Venice in 1993. Jim attended Christ United Methodist Church after his retirement and sang in the church choir. He had a beautiful tenor voice and often gave concerts in his churches and other churches during his ministry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1475 Center Road, Venice, FL 34292 or TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

I just saw the paper and was so sorry to see about the loss of your Dad. I have often thought of you and your family and the many good times we had. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We will always remember Jim for making our wedding day so special. He sang the opening prelude to our wedding "Saviour, Like a Shepherd Lead Us" and "Panis Angelicus."
Jim was blessed with an incredible tenor voice. We will miss his voice here but we celebrate that he is now singing among the saints and angels!

Jim was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor and a terrific singing voice. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. We wish his family strength to get through this difficult time.
