Lillian Unger Obituary

Lillian S. Unger, 71, Parrish, and formerly of Sarasota, died Jan. 9, 2003, at Bayfront Medical Center. She was born Aug. 19, 1931, in Union City, N.J., and came to Parrish in 1971 from Berea, Ohio. She retired in 1999 as a professor of German and English at Manatee Community College, where she taught since 1972. She was music director and organist at Hope Lutheran Church in Bradenton for 18 years, and at Bayshore Gardens Community Church in Bradenton for the past 12 years. She received a bachelor's degree from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea and a master's degree from Kent State University. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She was past president of both the Florida Foreign Language Association and the Faculty Senate at Manatee Community College. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and the Bay Chorale. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Eugene; sons Timothy E. and Matthew M., both of Tallahassee, and Theodore K. of Palmetto; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Bayshore Gardens Community Church. National Cremation Society, Sarasota chapter, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, 12902 Magnolia Drive, Tampa, FL 33612.
