"Aunt" Martha married "Grandpop"--Harry Ogden--more or less the year I was born. My birth grandma had died ten years earlier. Martha was my mother's age so she couldn't be "Grandma;"--hence the "Aunt."
That notwithstanding, she was my grandmother and she was a perfect complement to Grandpop. By the time I was old enough to understand the generation overlap I was old enough to know that Aunt Martha was as special as any grandmother.
She brought to our family three generations of her own family--Speichers and Buckinghams--people I assumed, correctly, were my family. If I were Jewish I'd call that a mitzvah! More good family is just plain good.
She was, in a word, cool--although she never would have bought that characterization. As an adult I enjoyed her wit and mind for forty years.

Dear Jeb & Bill-I am so saddened to read of Aunt Martha's passing....She was such a force to be reckoned with!! And I loved her!!! May you find comfort knowing she is with God (and your Mom and Harry and everyone else we'll see again!)

Martha your journey is over and I pray your soul is resting with Jesus.. It was a pleasure to be your nurse for nearly two years. I walk by your room and its not the same without you. Thank you for your friendship,I'll miss our small talk !
