Marvin W. Ostroff died January 27, 2018 in Sarasota, Fla. He was 90.
Mr. Ostroff was a certified public accountant licensed in New Jersey, New York and Florida.
He was devoted to his family and friends. He cherished the accomplishments of his wife, his children, grandchildren and all those around him. He loved collecting and educating others through his collections of stamps, coins, Valentine's Day cards, Jewish New Year's greeting cards and other Judaica.
He loved being part of a neighborhood – whether in Linden, N.J. or Sarasota.
Although he was always busy with work, family was an important part of his life. When it came to his children, there was never a research project or term paper that was completed without help or suggestions from their father.
Born In New York City, Mr. Ostroff graduated from Central High School in Newark. He received a bachelor's degree and masters of business administration from New York University. He took additional accounting courses to maintain his license in all three states.
He served in the U.S. army as an auditor shortly after World War II and during the Korean War.
He served as a name partner in several accounting firms in New Jersey. He served as an accounting instructor at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, for several years.
In 1951, he married his beloved wife Muriel, and they raised their two children in Linden, N.J. The couple lived there until moving to Sarasota in 1993.
Throughout his life, he was devoted to organized Jewish life. He was a founding member of Temple Mekor Chayim – Suburban Jewish Center (Linden, N.J.). He served as president and was an officer for many years. When they moved to Sarasota, he served as a board member of Temple Beth Sholom for many years.
Mr. Ostroff was the son of the late Leon and Tillie Ostroff.
After 57 years of marriage, Mr. Ostroff's wife, Muriel, died in January 2009.
Mr. Ostroff is survived by his daughter, Susan Keller of North Brunswick, N.J.; his son, Ron, of Edison, N.J.; his grandsons Matthew and Brett Keller, his companion Susan Schaen, his caregiver Rosa Williams and many other loving friends and relatives.
The family thanks Dr. Daniel Cooper, who saved Marvin Ostroff's life once and provided gentle and compassionate care to our father and grandfather in his final days.
