Nathan Sachs Obituary

Sachs, Nathan 'Nick'
Oct. 29, 1933 - Mar. 7, 2016
Nathan 'Nick' Sachs, In Loving Remembrance
On the evening of March 7, 2016, Nick passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded and comforted by family members, friends, nursing staff and his nurturing wife. Nick was 82 years old.
Nathan 'Nick' Sachs was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota at 5:12 PM on October 29, 1933. He was the first child and only son born to Sol Sachs and Florence Lieberman Sachs.
Nick was brought into the peanut business as his father, Sol Sachs, was a leading peanut processor based in the Midwest. He began hand shelling and bagging nuts to sell in his neighborhood by the age of ten. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, he joined his father's business, Sachs Peanuts, where he continued learning the market and helping his father grow the business.
In 1968, Nick formed his own brokerage company in Dallas, Texas as Nick Sachs & Company, Inc. For the next four decades, Nick earned and retained an outstanding reputation for prompt, courteous service and fairness in pricing. During the ensuing years, he played a valuable and pivotal role in setting national pricing in the nut industry. Nick, frequently referred to as 'The Nut Guru', was very well-known and respected nationally and worldwide in the nut industry. Nick was also a member of the National Pecan Shellers Association as well as the Peanut and Tree Nuts Processor Association and the Texas Pecan Shellers Association.
Nick could do anything he set his mind to. He was extremely passionate about his work and was engaged in all aspects of his business. He was fair and generous, sharing his knowledge and expertise with clients and associates.
Nick enjoyed playing competitive tennis matches and watching his favorite NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys. On weekends, he could be found boating and relaxing at Lake Texoma with his many dear friends and his wife, Reba Sachs, whom he adored. He was a member of Temple Emanuel in Dallas as well as the Jewish Federation of Dallas, Texas. Nick retired in 2011 and moved to Sarasota, Florida with Reba.
Nick is survived by his loving wife, Reba Price Sachs; sister, Abbie Miller; children, Lisa and Wendy Sachs, Suzanne and Jimmy Kosinski, Tami and Bill Payne; son-in-law, Mark Sears; six precious grandchildren, Cale and Catherine Sears, Bobbi and Ali Vina, Trevor and Mackenzie Payne; and one very sassy great granddaughter, Kylee Elizabeth Anne Lautenschlager.
Nick was preceded in death by his beloved grandson and daughter, Patrick Parente and Shari Sachs Sears.
Special thanks from the family must be made to Nick's exceptional caregivers Michael Ignatowski, Mike Manns and Linda Linneman and to his sister-in-law, Shirley Dees, for constant companionship, love and support.
