Patrick Alan Bernard, age 67, passed away on Thursday, December 21,
2017 at Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota Florida. Born in Orange, Texas on March 3, 1950, he was the son of the late LCDR John D. Bernard, Jr. and Joan Ellen Bernard. He was a graduate of the Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Florida. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, Search and Rescue. He was employed as a pressman for the Savannah Morning News, and held several other positions including building maintenance management in Sarasota, and earlier in life as a fireman on oil barges on the Gulf Coast. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Michael Bernard. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Barbara Briandi Bernard, his son Patrick Alan Bernard Jr. (Kari), his daughters Jennifer Marie Bernard Bedgood (Jason), and Melissa Suzanne Bernard Miller (Christopher). He is further survived by his mother, Joan Ellen Bernard (Sarasota, FL), and his brothers John D. Bernard (Roxanne), and his brother Steven Wescott Bernard (Kathy). Patrick had nine grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, mainly in the Louisiana and Texas coastal area. The Funeral Service will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery with Military Honors on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Humane Society of Sarasota County would be appreciated by the family.
