Roy Schardin Obituary

Roy K. Schardin Jr., 85, Camp Hill, Pa., and formerly of Sarasota, died May 26, 2005. He was born in Sacramento, Calif., and lived in Sarasota for nine years before moving to Camp Hill. He was a former Navy chief warrant officer and a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He enlisted in the Navy in 1939, and fought in World War II and Korea. As a civilian, he supported naval operations in Vietnam. He was active in the Lutheran Church in Sarasota. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen L.; children Steven L. of Andover, Mass., Barbara J. Dawson of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Patrick of Altamonte Springs, Marianne De Soto of Vienna, Va., and Roy K. III of Chula Vista, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held in Shiremanstown, Pa. Burial with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Myers Funeral Home Inc. Mechanicsburg, Pa., is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 98 S. Enola Drive, P.O. Box 266, Enola, PA 17025-0266; or to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 21475, St. Petersburg, FL 33742.
