Gizella Ban

Ban, Gizella I. ‘Grace’; age 93; died November 21, 2015. Loving Wife of the late Andrew. Dear Mother of Sandra Richters and the late Janet Ban; Adored Grandmother of the late Rachel Allison Richters and the late Katharine Anne Richters. Beloved Aunt to many Nieces and Nephews. Grace was a graduate of Southwestern High School who graduated with honors and was awarded a full scholarship to The Detroit Business School. Like many in the post depression era she was unable to pursue her own aspirations and entered the work force to support her family. During W.W.II she worked on the assembly line at Bendix Corp. She rose to the position of Administrative Secretary in plant management during the war effort while her husband Andrew served as an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper in North Africa, Sicily, Anzio Italy, France, Belgium and the Battle of the Bulge. Their family truly treasures their courage and personal sacrifice. She and her Husband left their Hungarian community in Southwest Detroit and settled in Dearborn Heights where they built their home and lived for 56 years. She worked first as a school census worker then a Middle School Principal’s secretary, ultimately to Crestwood High School Principal’s secretary for many years. She now joins her Husband as truly the last of “the greatest generation.” Visitation, Tuesday, November 24, 2015 3 to 9 p.m. Instate, Wednesday, November 25, 2015, 10:30 a.m. until time of Service 11 a.m., American Hungarian Reformed Church, 9901 Allen Rd, Allen Park.
