H. Scott Reiter, 81, jazz musician, teacher, loving husband, proud father, grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, and great-great-uncle, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 18. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia; daughters, Alison Johnson (Kevin), Megan Crawford (James); and grandchildren, Julia, Orion, Naomi, Kenji, and Seiji Crawford, and Alexi and Henry Johnson. Born in Toledo, OH, Scott was a long-time resident of Dearborn, MI who recently moved to Ada, Michigan, to live with extended family. He served in both the Army National Guard and the Air Force National Guard Band. He was a career music teacher and band director in the Detroit Public Schools and Mason Consolidated Schools in Erie, MI. Well-known and respected in the Detroit jazz community as a saxophonist, he supported jazz musicians of all ages. A graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education, he also earned a master's degree in Music Composition and worked on a DMA in Composition at University of Michigan. A 2022 Celebration of Life is being planned.
