George Kellogg Obituary

George Dwight Kellogg Jr., 93, of Lakeville, Conn., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and teacher, died August 19, 2010.
He is survived by Katharine (Kit) Kellogg, his wife of 44 years; his children Nancy Lightbody of Falmouth, Maine, Stuart Kellogg of Phelan, David Kellogg of Chappaqua, N.Y., and Peter Whitmore of Washington, D.C.; and his grandchildren Anne and Lisa Lightbody, Matt and Ben Kellogg, and Ethan and Kyla Whitmore. George was predeceased in 1961 by Wynne Krementz Kellogg. He was the son of the late George Dwight and Anna Mary (Collins) Kellogg of Schenectady, N.Y. George graduated from the Hotchkiss School and Yale College. After a brief stint in the United States Navy, George returned to Hotchkiss, where he spent 40 years in avariety of roles, including science and math teacher, director of admissions, and director of college guidance. For 16 years he was assistantheadmaster, the position he held when he retired in 1982. George continued to be involved in the community. An active volunteer, George served as president of the Sharon Hospital, the Salisbury Association, and the Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Salisbury Congregational Church, where he was a devoted member of the choir. Since 2008, George lived at Noble Horizons Retirement Village in Salisbury.
There will be a celebration of George's life at the Salisbury Congregational Church, 30 Main St. in Salisbury, Conn., on Monday, August 30, at 11:00 am. Donations in George's name may be made to the Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 582, Salisbury, CT 06068, or CHI Noble Horizons Employee Scholarship Fund, 17 Cobble Rd., Salisbury, CT 06068.
