Thomas Johansen Obituary

THOMAS EUGENE JOHANSEN, SR. Thomas Eugene "Tom" Johansen, Sr., 71, of Padonia, died February 18, 2025, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri due to a minor heart procedure.  Tom was born in Padonia on November 15, 1953, one of eleven children of Harold James and Edna Mae Brammer Johansen.  He graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1972.  He worked as a guide and later the owner of Wolf River Outfitters for a number of years. He also worked at setting up Payless Shoe Stores and worked as a machinist for Hammersmith Manufacturing in Horton.  His last job was working for Brown County Water Shed District.  Tom was united in marriage to Donna Shaw.  With this union came two boys:  TJ and Matt, before they divorced.  He later married Julie Banks and had a daughter Christina Burton who he adopted before they divorced.  In 2001, Tom was united in marriage to Mary Renteria with a daughter Tonya, and a son Phillip joining the family.  Survivors include his wife Mary; his sons: TJ (Cindi), Matt, and Phillip; his daughters: Tonya, and Christina; with 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are his siblings:  Jim, Hazel, Pat, Barb, Betty, John, Sandra, Susan and David.  Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers:  Roy, James Harold, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.  He was an avid hunter and made a career out of it.  He enjoyed sitting in the tree stand or in a blind, spending time with nature.  Tom enjoyed passing on all his skills to his grandchildren and any person who crossed his path.  He was always willing to lend a hand to any and everyone. He always looked forward to the National Wild Turkey Federation as a sponsor.  Tom enjoyed bowling, attending all his grandchildren's events, being around all his friends, and being outdoors.  He loved attending sports shows and meeting all the hunters that came in from all over.  Services are planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Fisher Community Center in Hiawatha, with Tony French officiating.  The burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Padonia for immediate family only.  The luncheon will held at approximately 1 p.m. at the Fisher Center.  Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday.  The family will meet with friends from 6 until 8 p.m. that evening at the Fisher Community Center.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to be left in care or sent to help with funeral expenses at the funeral home.
