Barry Sigmon Obituary
January 13, 1943 - December 10, 2024
Barry Mitchell Sigmon, 81, of Sherrills Ford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born January 13, 1943, in Catawba County, to the late Ralph Mitchell Sigmon and Leota Ratchford Sigmon Prestwood. Barry was raised on a farm in Sherrill's Ford, and spent his early life tending to chickens and pigs, and milking cows. In his youth, he was very active in 4H and was the state tractor driving champion in 1960. Barry was a lifelong member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Terrell, a graduate of Bandys High School class of 1961, and went on to attend CVTI (now CVCC), completing an Auto Mechanics degree.
He worked for General Motors for 31 years in various capacities across the country, with increasing responsibility. Barry was a proud father to his three children. After retirement, you could find him riding on his tractor, telling wonderful stories, teaching his grandkids to weld and drive a tractor, and enjoying a nice cold Sundrop after a hard day's work.
Those left to cherish his memory are wife of 59 years, Kathy Lineberger Sigmon of the home; sons, Brad Sigmon and wife, Sherry of Sherrills Ford, Chad Sigmon and wife, Leah of Sherrills Ford, Brent Sigmon and wife, Susan of Apex; brothers, Floyd Sigmon and wife, Carolyn of Sherrills Ford, David Sigmon and wife, Joanne of Sherrills Ford; sisters, Elaine Sigmon Cansler and husband, Dennis of Sherrills Ford, Janet Prestwood of Maiden; grandchildren, Jerni Sigmon, John Bradley Sigmon, Chloe Sigmon, Gabe Sigmon, Evan Sigmon, Bryce Sigmon, Owen Sigmon, and Sophie Sigmon.
A memorial service to celebrate Barry's life was held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 2 p.m., at Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Terrell. Rev. Tony Moreau and Rev. Chad Warner officiated. The family received friends following the service.
Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
