Benny Dockery Obituary
March 6, 1948 - November 25, 2023
Benny Edward Dockery, 75 of Hickory, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.
He was born March 6, 1948 in Surry County to the late Robert and Noreen Brendle Dockery. Benny was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church and a United States Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR and working in the yard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer D. Edelman; brother, Bobby F. Dockery; and brothers-in-law, Bobby L. Calhoun and Nathan E. Alberty.
Those left to cherish his memory are; wife of 30 years: Peggy Royal Dockery of the home; sons: Bobby E. Dockery of Boonville, NC, Michael L. Hawkins of Hickory, NC, Derek M. Hawkins of Hookerton, NC; sisters: Betty D. Alberty and husband Steve Curling of Cornelius, NC, Barbara D. Calhoun of Ronda, NC, Brenda D. Byrd of Elkin, NC; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service with military honors to celebrate Benny's life will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Michael Barber will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at Bennett Funeral Service.
