Bertha Jane Hoke Fischer

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Bertha Jane Hoke Fischer, who passed away in Orlando, FL on December 10, 2024, at the age of 88.
Born on May 12, 1936, in Claremont, North Carolina, Jane was the daughter of Harlie J. Hoke, Sr. and Rachel Baldwin Hoke. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Betty Hoke Sigmon, Virginia Hoke Sigmon, and Georgia Hoke Blanton, whose memories she carried in her heart throughout her life. Jane is survived by her two daughters, Emily Willingham (Mike), Columbia, SC and Laura Patton (Matt), Orlando, FL, her beloved grandchildren Isaac Davis and Heather Willingham, brother Harlie Jennings Hoke, Salisbury, NC, and her five very special nieces.
Jane attended Oxford High School, where she was a Junior Marshall, and graduated in 1954, being a proud member of the last graduating class of Oxford High. She furthered her education at Appalachian State University, earning her associate's degree in business in 1956. After her studies, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she began her professional career at the Pentagon, serving as an assistant to the Commandant of the Marine Corps. and where she met her husband, Jerry Fischer, also in the Marines. Jane's career path took her back to Claremont in 1959, where she joined General Electric in Hickory, North Carolina. In 1969, she transferred to the Greenville, South Carolina branch of GE, where she dedicated her skills and hard work until her retirement in 1998.
Jane was a life-long Lutheran, baptized into the faith by the Rev. Walter P. Hunsucker of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC. She remained a faithful member at Bethel Lutheran for over 30 years until 1968 when she transferred her church membership to Good Shepherd Lutheran, Greenville, SC.
Jane was a nurturing mother, a supportive sister, and a loving grandmother. She will always be remembered for being an avid basketball fan. Her warm spirit endeared her to many.
Per her wishes, a private funeral service will be held in her honor at a later date.
