June 6, 1933 - November 19, 2021
Billy Franklin Link, 88, of Newton, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at Atrium Health Main in Charlotte.
Billy was born June 6, 1933, in Catawba County, son of the late Jesse Link and Daisy Whisnant Link. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church and served in many leadership roles. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #248 in Catawba and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He retired from G.E. in Hickory.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma Jean Ikerd Link of the home; daughters, Janey Thern and husband, Matt of Easley, S.C., and Jill Raines and husband, Ed of Piedmont, S.C.; son, Jeff Link and wife, Tammy of Claremont; grandchildren, Tom Collins and wife, Karina, Zachery Link, Natalie Link, Allyson Raines and Jessica Thern; and great-grandchildren, Clayton Collins, Aria Collins and Sofia Santiago.
The funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 22, at 12 p.m., at St. James Lutheran Church in Newton with Pastor Bob Ollie and Pastor Malcolm Lerch officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #544. The body will lie-in-state in the sanctuary from 11 to 11:45 a.m., prior to the service, without family members present.

My parents have been friends with Bill and Jean since 1958 . A friendship like no other. Grew up with his kids and have Always stayed in touch. Bill was one of the smartest men I knew. He could Build anything. But mostly I will always remember his SMILE he always had. I cherish the memories of knowing him all my life and will always have a SPECIAL place in my Heart forever. I send my Prayers and condolences to the entire family...
