Pastor Bobby Alvin Langston, 88, of Claremont, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at Carolina Caring-Newton.
He was born May 8, 1933, in Anderson County, S.C., the son of the late Alvin Langston and Lettie Gillespie Langston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Warren; and three brothers, Thomas, Norman and Jerry Langston.
He loved paint horses; but more than that, he loved people. He was Pastor at Oxford Baptist Church for 29 years and Interim for eight years at Fairgrove Baptist Church. He had a heart for missions. His greatest desire was to see people come to know the Lord.
He is survived by wife, Betty Shaw Langston of the home; daughters, Theresa Hefner and husband, Steve of Conover and Geri Blanton of Claremont; brothers, Jimmy Langston and Dean Langston of South Carolina; sister, Nancy Nassim of South Carolina; grandsons, Michael Joseph Blanton, Marcus Alvin Blanton, Jared Lail, Trace Lail and Adam Shook; granddaughters, Carmon Warren, Leigha Roden, Kelly Blanton and Brittany Jarvis; great-grandsons, Corbin Blanton, Brantley Blanton, Levi Warren and Kaden Warren; great-granddaughters, Laura Vance, Elizabeth Bentley, Addison Blanton and LuKasey Blanton; great-great-grandson, Benjamin Bentley; and great-great-granddaughters, Natalia Vance, Camila Vance and Ila Vance.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Oxford Baptist Church, with Pastor Joel Frye and Pastor Gerald Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m., at the church, prior to the service.

Bobby Langston was my Preacher...he lead me to the Lord when I was 9 years old, and baptize me in the river down at the dam.
He taught me how to Pray.. he liked to tell about the time he called on me to Pray , at that time the church was raising money to build a new church, and I guess that's why I prayed that people would go all the way back to the barbwire fence..
He helped my family make it through a lot of hard times..

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Pastor Langston. I was wondering about him just last week. I remember when I lived in NC and he came to my sons hospital room and prayed with us. It meant alot to me. Again, my condolences!

Bobby wasn't only a pastor, but a dear friend to those in the communities he served. He was intelligent and kind. He helped me with some key advice back in the days when I was a young adult, and was always there if I needed anything. Serving the community was his calling. It was who Bobby was all about, and he made the world a better place. Sending best wishes to his family and firends.
