Carroll Edwin Shook, 86, of Hickory, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Springs of Catawba.
He was born on December 8, 1938, in Catawba County to the late Jason Heber Shook and Zora Lanier Shook. Carroll was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, in Hickory, and retired from Hickory City Schools Maintenance. He was a true craftsman who could build or fix just about anything. Beyond his craftsman skills, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he lovingly babysat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 10 of his siblings.
Those left to cherish his memory are Wife of 64 years, Betty Parsons Shook of the home; son, Darin Shook and wife, Karen of Hickory; daughter, Lori Shook Kent of Hickory; sisters, Helen Martin of Hickory, Ruth Cook of Hickory; grandchildren, Dana K. Reid (Dustin), Megan Shook and Paige S. Sebastian (Mark); great-grandchildren, Aubree Reid, Ledger Reid, and Emerson Reid.
A service to celebrate Carroll's life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 12 p.m. at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, 2304 Springs Rd. NE, Hickory, NC. Rev. Shea Pennington will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.
Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, 2304 Springs Rd. NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
