Cathy Henderson Huffman

We have lost a creative, humorous, vibrant force of light and gained a bright beautiful star. Mary Catherine "Cathy" Huffman passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2024, in High Point, NC. She was born on December 16th, 1949, in Hickory, NC.

She attended Lees-McRae College and later married Mark Huffman. Together they were blessed with two children and her biggest joy was being a mother. Her love for the mountains brought her to Blowing Rock, NC where she spent many years living on Misty Mountain. There she met and remarried her second husband Terry Coffey. Her passion for art was felt through her paintings, stained glass, and writings. She would often be found hiking alongside her fur babies, gardening, listening to music, and "junkin" for antiques.

Her personality was like a gravitational force that could be felt with just her big smile. If you knew Cathy, you loved her. She had the ability to command a room full of people with her presence, while simultaneously making everyone in her orbit feel seen and loved. If you met Cathy as a stranger, you left as her friend. Her compassion for people and especially animals was rooted in her deep love of all humankind. She was a free spirit with a wicked sense of humor. Heaven will be laughing a little harder now that they have been gifted the life of the party.

Cathy is preceded in death by her parents Dan Henderson and Ora "Odie" Henderson; her older brother Tom Henderson; and her ex-husband Mark Huffman and husband Terry Coffey.

She is survived by her children Amanda Huffman and Andrew Huffman; her brother Philip Henderson; and her beloved rescue dog, Annie.

We will have a Celebration of Life in Blowing Rock in the Spring and will send details when plans are finalized.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to a local animal shelter in honor of Cathy Huffman as she has always loved and adopted so many "critters" that were in need.
